Philly Public Golf Courses

Bethpage Black (Farmingdale, NY)

This is the famous sign that greets the players as you step down to the opening dogleg left par 4. If you look carefully you can see the green out near the upper right-hand corner of the photo. That is the #1 hole of the green course that you can see part of the fairway and the green. To carry the trees at the dogleg on the right requires a drive that flies 270 yards! Here are the fellows I played with: Mark McKeever (Villanova student) and Trevor #1: opening par 4 playing 430 yards from the tips. Aside: the course is strange as the starter will bark at your group if more than one player stands on the tee box at the same time! #1: view to the dogleg
#1: view back to the rather tees with the rather understated clubhouse and restaurant in the background. #1: view of the two-tiered green from 50 yards #1: view back to the dogleg #1: view from the middle of the green
#1: view from th edge of the large bunker right of the green; another large and deep bunker is left of the green and somewhat visible in this shot. #2: beautiful tree-lined par 4 'only' 389 yards from the tee; this is one of the easier holes on the course but requires a drive in the fairway or else it is not easy as the green is elevated and bunkered very well. #2: a better focused picture of this dogleg left par 4. #2: a view from near the beginning of the fairway showing the green perched up on the side of the hill; the building behind is the rather fancy maintenance facility.
#2: view back up to the tees. #2: Mark and I were both in the right rough; as you can tell, that is not the place to be if you wish to hit this green in regulation. #2: view from 75 yards showing very uphill nature at the green. #2: further evidence.
